Burgundy
A litte history …Burgundy owes its name to the Burgondes , a tribe which founded the kingdom of Burgondie. This then became the kingdom of Burgundy, then the Two Burgundies in the Carolingian era. In the Middle Ages, there were two separate entities, the County of Burgundy and the Duchy of Burgundy. The former (now known as Franche-Comté) was Imperial territory, the latter consisted of the counties of Mâcon, Chalon, Sens, Auxerre, Tonnerre, Nevers, Autun and belonged to the Kingdom of France. |
